About

Blue Arbor Technologies is a University of Michigan spin-out developing the RESTORE Neuromuscular Interface System, an implanted interface that reads nerve and muscle signals to control robotic upper-limb prostheses. The investigational device has FDA Breakthrough Device Designation and was accepted into the FDA TAP Pilot. In February 2026 prosthetics maker Ottobock led its Series A with a $5 million investment and took a board seat.

Connects directly to residual muscles and peripheral nerves instead of surface skin electrodes, based on the founders' regenerative peripheral nerve interface research, with motor signals captured for over five years in early feasibility trials.

Product

RESTORE Neuromuscular Interface System

Implantable medical device

An investigational implanted system that detects voluntary nerve and muscle control signals and decodes them into movement commands for robotic upper-limb prostheses.

  • Implantable intramuscular electrodes
  • Sensing unit that filters and processes EMG signals and transmits them wirelessly
  • Socket-mounted receiver that decodes signals into prosthesis commands

Built for

People with upper-limb loss using robotic prostheses, and the clinicians and prosthetics makers serving them
