Glydways designs, manufactures, and operates an autonomous on-demand public transit system built around small electric vehicles running on dedicated narrow guideways. Riders take private, direct trips between stations without fixed schedules, in a personal rapid transit model rather than a fixed-route bus or rail line. The company says the system carries more people than rail while using less than half the space and costing far less to build and operate, because it relies on commodity vehicle technology and existing supply chains. Founded in 2016 in South San Francisco, it has projects underway with public agencies including San Jose, East Contra Costa County, and Atlanta.
