ModRetro is an American consumer electronics company that designs and manufactures retro gaming hardware. Its flagship products are the Chromatic, a Game Boy Color-inspired handheld built on open-source FPGA components that plays original cartridges, and the M64, an FPGA recreation of the Nintendo 64 launched in July 2026. The company also runs an independent game publishing studio that ships original titles and physical re-releases on cartridges. Founded in 2023 by Palmer Luckey and Torin Herndon out of a console-modding forum Luckey started in 2009, it was reported in March 2026 to be raising at roughly a $1B valuation.
