About

ProRata.AI builds attribution, search and advertising technology for generative AI that credits and pays the owners of the content an AI answer was built from. Its systems decompose a generated answer into the sources that contributed to it and apportion revenue pro rata across those sources, with the company sharing 50% of revenue with content partners. ProRata works only from licensed content rather than scraped material, and routes traffic back to the original publishers. It was founded in 2024 in Pasadena, California by Bill Gross and Tarek Najm, and has licensing partnerships with publishers including The Atlantic, TIME, Fortune, The Guardian, Axel Springer and Universal Music Group.

Rather than opposing AI answer engines, ProRata makes them accountable at the source level: a per-use fractional attribution method that quantifies each publisher's contribution to an individual answer and splits revenue 50/50, built on licensed content only.
