Alpheus Medical is a clinical-stage company based in Chanhassen, Minnesota developing a non-invasive sonodynamic therapy (SDT) platform for solid tumors, starting with glioblastoma. Patients take an oral drug (5-ALA) that accumulates porphyrin metabolites preferentially in tumor cells, then low-intensity diffuse ultrasound is applied externally to activate those compounds, generating reactive oxygen species that kill tumor cells. The therapy is delivered in an outpatient setting with the patient awake and is designed for repeated dosing alongside standard-of-care surgery, radiation, and chemotherapy. A Phase 2b pivotal trial in newly diagnosed glioblastoma is enrolling, funded in part by an oversubscribed $52M Series B closed in May 2025.
