AmpVisions is a deep-tech semiconductor startup in Orange, Connecticut, founded in 2024 to commercialize silicon-native thermal sensing. Its core invention is a silicon thermal transistor that detects infrared radiation using standard transistor physics and on-chip thermal signal amplification, rather than the exotic materials conventional infrared detectors require. The aim is long-wave infrared (LWIR) imaging that can be built on scalable, low-cost silicon platforms and integrated into ordinary microelectronics. The technology came out of roughly a decade of academic research and is backed by foundational device-level intellectual property.
